How much will it cost?

Rent is made up of three factors; location, quality and demand.

Student housing tends to get more expensive, the closer the houses are to the university. Prices right next to university are around £70 to £90 per person per week (pppw). The more expensive houses sometimes have plasma TV's, Jacuzzi baths, en-suites, dishwashers or bills included. So it really is up to you how much you want to spend.

Houses further away from the university (a 10 to 20+ min walk) can be about £10 pppw cheaper. But these houses tend to be bigger, with double bedrooms and nicely furbished, rather than being cheaper.

The rent will not normally include bills; some do include water rates, but make sure your landlord isn't overcharging for that facility.

It's hard to say how much you will spend on bills, but you will usually have to pay water, electricity and gas bills yourself. Added extras can include broadband, sky/virgin TV, phone lines and TV licence.

Don't lose sight of what you really want. The main thing to decide is who you want to live with and how much you can afford to pay. Anything extra should be seen as a bonus!
